Of all a car's components, brakes perform the most vital function of driver safety. So it goes without saying they need to be well maintained to work at their best. Yet it's often overlooked by motorists who don't always pay attention to the signs. Brake pads and rotors on all types of cars wear out eventually, but brake wear and tear vary based on several factors. The two below being the most common factors: Your driving habits play a big part. Other than for safety reasons, there's no need to push the brakes aggressively. Photo by by Gerd Altmann from Pixabay Welcome to our May blog! This month, we wanted to talk about Emergency Protocols on your drive. With summer coming and more people out on the road, we hope you are doing your best to make driving safe for you and others. We all know that flashing lights means that emergency vehicles are in the area. Those vehicles try to keep us safe and help people in trouble or stop people who are a danger to us on the road. It’s crucial that we know this and that we teach our kids this as they begin to approach the age where they are driving, too. But it helps to remember that there are steps we can take both, as someone in an emergency situat ... read more

Shock absorbers wear out over time. You should know when to replace your shock absorbers to maintain your car's performance and enhance its safety. Shock absorbers are part of the suspension system and act as a buffer to prevent vibrations from the road from reaching the body of your car. How Long Should Shock Absorbers Last? At the very least, shock absorbers should last for about four to five years. However, they can deteriorate quite fast if you drive in off-road conditions regularly. On the other hand, they can last as much as ten years if you only drive in smooth road conditions. You can also estimate when it is time to replace the shock absorbers by checking the distance covered since that last change. A good rule of the thumb is between 50,000 and 70,000 miles. If you regularly drive in off-road conditions, you may have to go with the lower cut-off mark. It is a good idea to have the shock absorbers inspected at least once a year to determine if they requ ... read more

Brake rotors are an important part of your vehicle; they spin with and stop the wheels when the brake pads fasten down on them. There is a lot of heat that the brake rotors withstand in the process of braking; the need to dissolve the heat in a quick manner is there so the brake pads can be pressed down again. The surface of the brake rotors can become uneven over time all due to the mass amount of heat… this is also known as warping. When your brake rotors warp it can cause the brakes on your vehicle to become jittery and they will be less effective. When you think of brake warping you should know it means there is an uneven surface that is caused by heat. There are several ways in which your brake rotors can be warped; they include: Your brake rotors can become glazed with material that comes from your brake pads. This can happen when the brake pads get extremely hot which can cause the pad material to rub off onto the brake rotors. This will cause the surface of your brake ... read more

When it comes to most things, the wise among us say, “you can’t judge a book by its cover.” It’s what’s on the inside that counts, not the superficial. What does it matter if your car has a dent, but the engine remains mercifully unharmed by an accident? But sometimes, it matters that things aren’t right. A scratch, a ding, or a dent all add up to a feeling that our faithful car is a little bit shabby. And that in turn has a surprising negative affect on how we treat our cars. Ignoring body damage to your car can lead to apathy. If you don’t believe your car is worth the bodywork to buff out a scratch or clear up ding, those are feelings that will affect the way you drive the car. This kind of apathy can lead to less-safe driving because the car is no longer 'protected' by you. You may take chances you would never take with your vehicle when it was new. This very same apathy results in deferring the scheduled maint ... read more

A transmission flush is a process of removing grime, sludge, and old transmission fluid from a car's transmission and then adding fresh, clean fluid. This procedure lubricates and cools the automatic transmission. The transmission system is designed to safely and smoothly transfer power to the wheel from the engine. By keeping the system in good condition, you'll protect your car against severe damage. Here are the top three benefits of a transmission flush: Prevent Problems With Transmission Preventing problems with the transmission is perhaps the most crucial benefit of a transmission flush. Over time, your transmission fluid will collect dirt and other foreign particles to prevent it from performing its function. This will cause the transmission system to heat up, which may interfere with acceleration and shifting. Dirty transmission fluid will no longer provide lubrication or power for transmission. By removing this old fluid and replacing it with a new ... read more
