Why has my Car's Fuel Efficiency Decreased?

Getting low fuel efficiency can be more than just an annoyance - it can be an indication of a major issue with your vehicle. After driving your vehicle for a number of years, chances are you are well accustomed to how much mileage you get per gallon, or at least how often you have to fill up your tank. If you find yourself having to get gas more often even though you drive the same route every day, there may be something wrong with your car.  Many different vehicle issues can cause a decrease in fuel efficiency, some small and some larger. Your fuel system works like this: you put fuel into your gas tank, which helps to power your vehicle. The fuel is taken from the tank and mixed with air and vaporized in the engine intake system. Next, it is compressed in the engine cylinder and ignited which is what makes energy to move the pistons. When the fuel system is working optimally, you will receive the best fuel efficiency from your vehicle.  Here are some of the comm ... read more

Why Being a Green Shop Matters!

Why Being a Green Shop Matters!

We don’t often think of the environmental consequences of the shops to whom we give our business. Finding an automotive shop that cares just as much about the environment as you do means that they will do the worrying for you. We all want clean air to breathe and freshwater to drink from, finding a green repair shop near you will help the environment for years to come. Many auto repair shops use solvent-based fluids and cleaners, which are harmful to both employees as well as the environment. There are other options out there, and a green-mechanic is in the know. Using water-based liquids and cleaners are risk-free and is not corrosive or damaging to your car. A green shop can employ the resources to recycle products like antifreeze and refrigerant gasses without harming the environment. The entire facility is environmentally sensitive. They also purchase spray products over aerosols whenever possible. Reconditioned car parts are an excellent choice when thinking of environmen ... read more

This is a moderate issue, so get your vehicle into Avid Autowerx as soon as you can.  Brake Fluid - light brown and oily. This is very serious, so don't drive your vehicle until it is looked at by one of our mechanics.  Engine Oil - light brown to black in color with a thin syrup-like texture. This is a moderate issue but we recommend getting into our shop at your earliest convenience.  Power Steering Fluid - red to brown in color with a thin consistency that drips from the front of yo ... read more
